Objectives: Urticarialin childrentendstobeincreasing, some
severe urticarial in children require hospitalized. Theresearchon
thecauses ofurticarialin childrenisstilllimited. This
studywas conductedto determinethecausesofurticarialin children.
Subjects and Methods: This was across-sectional studyon143 children
with urticarial who were inpatients at
the National Hospital of Pediatrics. Children andtheirfamilieswere asked thesuspectedcausesofurticarialand
performedtestsforspecificIgE with 13food allergensand7
respiratoryallergens.
Results: The study resultsshowed that the causes of 72.6% of
children with urticarial wereunknown. In
thegroup of suspected causesforacuteurticarial, themostcommon cause were medication(47.1%), followed byweather changesandfood allergies. The specific IgE results showedthatthe proportion of
children with milk andmilk components allergies was thehighest(42.4%), followed byrespiratoryallergenssuchasdog and cat
fur, dustmiteshouse. However,
there were noassociation betweenthe suspectedcause by questionnairesand thespecific IgEtestresults.
Conclusion: The causes of mostofurticarialin children
areunknown. Specific
IgEtestisavaluableto findthecausesofurticarialin children.
